On the evening of Tuesday, Sept, 7 at approximately 7:30, the Mono County Sheriff’s Department received information from the FBI that a person wanted for bank robbery in the San Jose area may be camping in the Bridgeport area. At approximately 9:20, a Mono County Sheriff’s Deputy was patrolling the area around Buckeye Campground in Bridgeport, where he located the bank robbery suspect’s vehicle. John Robert Alexander, 56, of Auburn, Calif, was taken into custody without incident on an arrest warrant for possibly being involved in nine bank robberies. The FBI has coined Mr. Alexander as “the Posse Box bandit.” Mr. Alexander is currently in custody at the Mono County Jail. — Mono County Sheriff’s Department |
