MMSA brass work out deal with Dog Sled
Adventures

By Stacey Powells
Mammoth Times Staff Writer

The Mammoth Times recently published a story (March 12, 2009) regarding the disappearance of Dog Sled Adventures from Mammoth Mountain Ski Area (MMSA). Since then, a meeting took place between Jim Ouimet, owner of Dog Sled Adventures, and MMSA senior management.
Vice President Bob Peckenpaugh reported that he, along with Clifford Mann and Ski School head Craig Albright met with Ouimet to disucss options and try to come to an agreement on a safe place to run the dogs.
“I personally met with Jim,” Peckenpaugh said. “Just like the article said, we really want him here for our guests.”
Peckenpaugh said they all agreed on a location for the dogs that was safe and still near the parking lot of the Mammoth Mountain Inn.
“He said he would come up the following Tuesday to dig the trails but that was the last we heard from him.”
Peckenpaugh said they left several messages for Ouimet, which have yet to be returned.
The Times finally caught up with Ouimet last week.
“Due to the fact that I’m injured and a few of my other guys are injured we’ve closed down for the season,” he said. “There’s nothing we can really do right now except get healthy and gear up for next season.”
Ouimet said they are in the planning stages for next year and are working with Craig Albright, Managing Director for the MMSA Ski and Sports School.
“We were hoping to be able to do something here for spring break but they had a lot of injuries,” Albright said. “Our concern was mixing kids with the dogs and making the area safe for everyone. We hope to pick up where we left off for next year and appreciate the animation his business brings to the main lodge. We want to meet the needs of our guests to make sure they have a great experience while they’re up here visiting the mountain.”
