Mammoth Times Daily: Friday, December 4, 2009: Digital 395 Project Inches Closer to Realization E-mail
Friday, 04 December 2009
The California Public Utilities Commission yesterday conditionally approved a grant of $19,294,717 for the Digital 395 Middle Mile Project from the California Advanced Services Fund. The grant constitutes 19 percent of the total project cost of over $100 million dollars and is contingent on a matching grant from the federal Broadband Technology Opportunities Program. The Digital 395 project would entail a 10 gigabit high-capacity fiber optic middle mile/backhaul route from Barstow to Topaz Lake. This would compensate for the historic lack of investment by telecommunications carriers in this rural area. - CB
