Yet when the local cinemas are only playing R-rated thrillers and Oscar-bait dramas—and every television show seems forensics-based—it’s nice to get out of the house and visit the Edison Theatre—a place where the seats are comfy and the sweet comedy of Lend Me A Tenor keeps the laughs going. 
 

Just Life: Dreaming of escaping

I had dream after dream the other night of escaping and disappearing. Escape comes from the Latin word “excappare” which has something to do with hiding under a cloak. The definitions in the dictionary read, “To get away” and “to get free of or break away from something” and “to get and stay out of the way of something.”

Among the many treasures of Mammoth is the Valentine Reserve, a patch of forest reserved for research by University of California, Santa Barbara, and visiting academics.
 
It’s normally closed to the public, but every now and then, the reserve opens its gates for entertaining walks and talks.
 
This season’s schedule was announced last week by Leslie Dawson, the education coordinator at the reserve.
