Dr. Andrew Bourne, 46, the former chief of staff at Mammoth Hospital and implicated as a possible suspect in an ongoing child sex investigationin Santa Barbara, died Tuesday, authorities said.
A man who is walking across the country to raise awareness for the need for hospice facilities met his match in snow-bound Yosemite National Park and had to be rescued by Mono County Search and Rescue team members.

The four-day storm this past week doubled the winter’s total snowpack depth, increasing it from about 55 inches to just over 106 inches and helping to clear the winter of 2011-2012 of the dubious moniker, “the driest winter on record.”
It made it by just a few inches. The snow came down heavy enough to coat Mammoth Mountain with a fine, sturdy base, and it gave thirsty plants and grasses a much-needed boost for the upcoming spring growing season.

When a reverse 911 call alerting some Mammoth residents about power outages went out in the middle of the storms earlier this week, cell phone-only users were by and large left out. The reverse 911 system is dependent upon the fact that landline users are already in a database as customers of their landline company. The same is not true for cell phone users.
