Governor Brown issues executive order requiring 25 percent cut in water use

A dismal snowpack, measured at one inch of precipitation on Mammoth Pass on March 30 instead of the average for that date of about 42 inches of water, and equally low in the rest of the Sierra, triggered Governor Jerry Brown today, April 1, to issue an executive order requiring all water districts to cut back on water use by 25 percent.

Water district considers more water use restrictions, April 1

The Mammoth Community Water District board of directors will consider increasing water use restrictions tonight, April 1 at a special water district meeting. The meeting is at 4:30 p.m. in the conference room at the district facility located one mile east of Old Mammoth Road on Meridian Boulevard, just off Highway 203. The meeting is open to the public. For more information on what the proposed Level Three water restrictions will mean, go to http://www.mcwd.dst.ca.us/ and look under "Conservation" then go to the link to the "Water Conservation Ordinance" item.

Mammoth's water district in court today

The Mammoth Community Water District and representatives from the local air pollution control district, as well as other entities involved in an ongoing legal dispute over a proposed geothermal plant, will be in court today before Judge Stan Eller to argue their case regarding a proposed, new, 33-megawatt geothermal power plant.

 First-ever “Ezakimak”

A run-snowshoe-ski race from the base of Mammoth Mountain (9,000 feet) to the summit (11,053 feet) is set for Saturday, April 4. It begins at 4 p.m. with the race at 7 p.m.

It follows the Kamikaze downhill mountain bike trail, except backward (hence Ezakimak).

Fourth Grade Sacramento trip fundraiser at Roberto's, March 31

Glacier Point road opens Saturday, no date yet for Tioga Pass opening

The Glacier Point Road in Yosemite National Park will open for the season to automobile traffic tomorrow, Saturday, March 28, 2015, at 6:00 a.m. All visitor services at Glacier Point will be fully operational. The Bridalveil Creek Campground will open within the next several weeks.

Visitors are urged to drive slowly and with caution, as wildlife may be present on or near the roadway.

Bishop's Main Street is now a free wifi zone, according to the Bishop Chamber of Commerce. I-Main now provides free wifi in public spaces along Main Street from Lagoon Street to MacIver Street and into the Bishop City Park. I-Main users will be greeted with a “splash page” hosted at www.bishop.community.

Record high temperatures expected Friday, some relief over weekend

Weather forecasters at the National Weather Service in Reno said Wednesday that record high temperatures are possible for Friday.

At the same time, they said weak low pressure may move into northern California on Saturday for slight cooling, and a low chance of showers and thunderstorms.

“Well above average temperatures continue early next week under high pressure,” the NWS said.
