TENNEY: ENTHUSIASTIC RESPONSE FOR GATEWAY COMMUNITY PROJECT
Contrary to Mammoth Times report (March 18, 2011), “Tenney receives lukewarm response to Gateway Monument” and “[she] got a tepid – at best – response,” I’ve found the response overwhelmingly positive and enthusiastic since December 15 when I volunteered to organize the Mammoth Gateway Community Project and complete it by November.
BODIE SHOULD BE A NATIONAL PARK
Supporting a mine or Wilderness Study Area is chump change compared to what really needs to be done with Bodie.
The supervisors should go for broke and propose national park status for the historic mining town.
Bodie is the only bona fide ghost town left in the West. It is the only place a visitor can go to experience what it was like to live in the West in the 1860s.
Based on that fact alone, Bodie is worthy of national park status. It deserves to be linked with Death Valley, Manzanar, and Yosemite.
MAMMOTH TIMES EDITORIAL, MARCH 11, 2011
Mono County is wise right now not to commit to more than the $45,000 in subsidies they already are contributing toward year-round air service.
The Town of Mammoth and the Mountain are asking to divide a $650,000 to $900,000 gap in air service costs equally between all three entities and the county is balking.
PACKING FOR MAMMOTH TROOPS
Mammoth Troops has scheduled a packing date for Tuesday, March 22 at 6 p.m. at the Mammoth Community Center. Homebaked cookies, beef jerky, pepperoni, sundries, chapstick and sunscreen are just a few ideas of needed items. If you can’t make the packing but would like to donate any items, they can be dropped off at the Mammoth Reservations office, next to Schat’s Bakery, before that evening.
