Volleyball Huskies top Desert Christian for first time in four years

Huskies look for Homecoming boost

October 20, 2014

Maybe Homecoming can be a charm for the Mammoth Huskies.

Having lost three straight games—the latest a 37-8 mashup at Excelsior (Victorville) on Friday, Oct. 17—the Dogs come back to Gault/McClure Stadium for a collision with Desert Mountain League rival Vasquez on Friday night.

It is Homecoming, and whatever boost that might give the Huskies, they’ll take in.

In their three consecutive defats, Mammoth has been outscored 95-20, the big one a 50-12 defeat at home to Desert on Oct. 10.

Off The Trail — Broken Finger Peak

July 21, 2014

The old mining road that struggles up the side of Broken Finger Peak isn’t most people’s idea of an ideal backcountry trip.

It’s 20 feet wide, and hot, even at 12,000 feet. It’s exposed, dropping like a shot down toward Pine Creek Canyon more than 5,000 feet below. It’s littered with old machinery, four-decade-old broken Coke bottles with half-inch thick glass, pieces of sun-beaten plastic and wire of indeterminate origin and use.
