December 19, 2013

The Mammoth Huskies basketball team, fresh off “character builder” losses at last weekend’s Whittell (Nev.) Tournament, is putting together the finishing touches before they begin play in the Desert Mountain League on Dec. 27.

If their 73-47 loss to Incline and their 71-38 loss to host school Whittell on Saturday was tough to take, their 56-48 victory against Lee Vining might have ameliorated the sting of the losses.

The bright spot in Nevada belonged to Fox Kailiawa.

Third quarter meltdown dooms Mammoth in 55-27 loss at Desert

September 23, 2013

The Mammoth Huskies learned a thing or two about the art of a quick turnaround Friday night against the Desert Scorpions at Edwards Air Force Base.

Cruising along comfortably after two quarters and with a possible road victory within sight, the Huskies came out of the locker room at halftime and were stung so quickly it was hard for them to know what bit them.

The final was 55-27, but in the third quarter, Desert overwhelmed Mammoth repeatedly, putting up 30 points in less than 12 minutes and putting the game out of reach.
