Trail of the week

April 15, 2015

The Convict Lake trail south of Mammoth about five miles on U.S. 395 is free of snow and the aspens are budding right now, making the easy hike around the beautiful lake a good early season hike. If you want more of a challenge, head up the trail toward Mildred Lake at about 9,000 feet elevation. The trail is mostly free of snow, at least to the first creek crossing about 2.5 miles up. The trail behind the lake will give you a good workout and the views are impeccable.
