Mammoth's Deena Kastor continued her mastery of the Masters Sunday by setting a world Masters record in the Philadelphia Rock 'n' Roll Half Marathon.
The Mammoth Huskies opened their home season with a 28-3 victory over non-conference foe Hamilton High School (Anza) on Friday evening, Sept. 19.
Steven Orrick amazzed 199 total yards, Logan Deangeles, Jesse Worden and Emmitt Hugelman led a dominant defense and the Huskies erased the memory of a 50-0 loss at Bishop one week earlier.
The month of September 2014 marks the 10 year anniversary of the Sierra Nevada Conservancy.
On Sept. 17, at about 6:20 a.m., Inyo County Sheriffâ€™s Deputies were dispatched to the Coso Junction Chevron Station for a dispute between the store clerk and a male subject (later identified as Erik Nelson, a 38-year-old man from Lake Havasu, AZ). Nelson left the store prior to Deputies' arrival.
The responding Deputies located Nelson in a tan Ford Ranger parked on the southbound shoulder of Highway 395 approximately a half mile north of the Coso Junction Rest Area. A record check of the license plate indicated that the vehicle had been reported stolen out of Bullhead City AZ.

There is a new fire on June Mountain within the ski area and it very active and growing, according to the Inyo National Forest.
"A new fire has been discovered on June Mountain," according to a Sept. 16 5:20 p.m. news release from the forest. "The June Fire is estimated to be five acres and is showing torching and running behavior.
"The fire is on the June Mountain Ski Resort and structures are threatened. The Reversed Creek Campground is being evacuated.
"The cause of the fire is under investigation."

The Conway Fire started when a vehicle blew a tire, according to Inyo National Forest officials. The fire is 50 acres and will be fully contained Tuesday, Sept. 16. Two other vehicle-related fires also started the same day, on the Sherwin Grade.
According to a news release, the Conway Fire started south of Conway Summit on the west side of U.S. 395.
In addition, there were two small fires south of the Sherwin Grade along U.S. 395 on Sunday, Sept. 14. These fires, which were quickly contained, were also determined to be vehicle-related.
A Bridgeport man riding a motorcycle on Sept. 10 near the Sonora/U.S. 395 junction was injured when a deer leaped into his path, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The accident occurred at 6:48 a.m. when Moises Cornejo, 43 was traveling northbound U.S. 395 north of S.R.108 when a deer leaped into his path colliding into his motorcycle. The deer collision caused Cornejo to lose control of his orange 2009, Kawasaki, Vulcan 900, which overturned, ejecting Cornejo was ejected from his motorcycle.
An unusually robust respiratory illness stalking parts of the Midwest and the West Coast has not yet shown up in California, but Mono County's public health officer, Dr. Rick Johnson, wants parents and caretakers of young children, especially, to be aware of the symptoms and risks.
Called the EV-D68 virus, from mid-August to September 12, a total of 97 people in six states have been confirmed to have respiratory illness caused by this virus, he said in a news release.
A Lone Pine man who swung a machete at several people and tried to choke a woman at a birthday party has been arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, according to Inyo County Sheriff's officials.
The incident occurred on Sept. 14 at about 1:30, a.m. when Inyo County dispatch was notified of a fight in progress at Statham Hall in Lone Pine.
The Mammoth Huskies girls volleyball team began their season in fine fashion over the weekend, taking third place in the Mammoth Volleyball Invitational Tournament.
