An inspiring evening of poetry

January 11, 2013

I want thank all of those who made last Saturday’s Mono County Finals of the Poetry Out Loud National Recitation Contest possible.

It was an inspiring evening of poetry recitation that was moving and thought provoking. Thank you to the judges: Jo Bacon, Malcolm Clark, Stacey Coreless, Noelle Deinken, Bartshe Miller; the accuracy judge Blaire Lee; the prompter and County coach—poet Eva Poole Gilson; the tabulator—Tabby Mannetter; the sound and lighting tech Tim Casey.

Thank you Mammoth community!

The Mammoth High School Boosters wish to thank all Mammoth locals, businesses, second homeowners and visitors who supported our Christmas tree sales this year.

Boosters raised over $15,000 to support MHS sports teams, band, cheer, and other MHS organizations making this one of the most successful fundraisers ever.

To all my wonderful patients

I have received great personal reward from dentistry over the years, but the time has come for me to retire from private practice.

Although I won’t be seeing you in my office, you and your family will remain in my thoughts. I appreciate the confidence you have placed in me by allowing me to serve your dental needs.

Let’s not live in fear

I am writing to respond to the article on the cover of the Dec.21 edition titled “Atmospheric river” pattern threatens to flood California.”

I can understand the impact which occurred in December 1861 and the devastation it must of had. However things aren’t exactly the same as 1861.

All the major rivers in southern California are hundreds of feet wide and deep, lined with concrete.

Thank you Council and Staff: Happy New Year!

January 4, 2013

We all need to start the New Year with a pat on the back to the Mammoth Lakes Town Council and Staff.

They solved the MLLA judgment crisis without taxing the innocent. We should all appreciate how hard it is to make difficult decisions that affect people and friends. The Council could have taken the easy way out by taxing homeowners. Thankfully, they did not follow that unfair path. Thank you.

A sonnet for Fido

honestly,

i dont have a dog.

and truthfully,

i used to laugh at your column (blush).

but lately,

i look forward to it.

i open the paper like a child on Christmas morning,

anxious to see what you might say.

i am not sure what occurred first.

my patient understanding or

your improvement in article,

but just the same,

it happened.

thank you for brightening my day(s).

My wife and I would like to thank the community for the outpouring of well wishes, hugs and prayers—they have certainly helped over the past weeks.

My doctors have determined that my event was caused by a low-grade brain tumor.

A plan of treatment from my doctors at University of California San Francisco is in place and I will be starting radiation and chemotherapy in Carson City soon.

I’m feeling good and I’m working to regain my strength.

Council should reconsider

We have owned a condo in Mammoth for many years, and recently contacted the Mammoth Police Department for assistance. The police officers have been responsive. No one knows when the services of the police will be required, and I would strongly urge the Mammoth Lakes Town Council to maintain the level of service and safety net now in place.

The Lee Vining Elementary PTO would like to thank all of the volunteers and sponsors who helped make our Annual Halloween Carnival a success. We are humbled by the widespread community support we received throughout Mono County.

The monies the Lee Vining PTO raised from this event will fund supplemental opportunities and supplies for students in the areas of music, P.E. and art.
