Air Pollution Control District Issues Stage 1 Health Advisory

Based on air pollution levels at 5 a.m on Sept. 4, a Stage 1 Air Pollution Health Advisory has been issued for Mono County communities by the local air pollution control district.

Walker Fire Closures Lifted

The Walker Fire is now 100 percent contained and all recreation sites and roads that were closed due to fire are open again. This includes the Aspen Grove Campground, which has re-opened after the Walker Fire. It had been used fire operations for the Walker Fire.

Rough Fire is Now the Largest Active Fire in State

The Rough Fire is now the largest active fire burning in the state. The fire is at 77,287 acres, of which 47,907 acres are on the Sierra National Forest, 29,110 acres on the Sequoia National Forest, 207 acres on Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Park and 62 acres of state responsibility.

The Weather Ahead This Weekend

Cooler temperatures and gusty winds and a Red Flag Warning for fire danger on Saturday and into Sunday, Aug. 29-Aug. 30, are in the forecast this weekend, along with more smoke from the Rough Fire.

Rough Fire Hits 72,300 Acres; Smoky "At Least Another Week"

The Rough Fire grew again over the weekend, adding another approximately 12,000 acres in a few days and bringing the fire to about 72,300 acres as of Monday morning, Aug. 31.

Walker Fire Almost Out

The Walker Fire is 95 percent contained as of this morning, Aug. 26, according to Inyo National Forest officials. Firefighters will focus on northwest flank of the fire today to determine if there are any threats to this remote section of fireline.
