Big 'Welcome Home' party for Keflezighi Tuesday evening

January 17, 2012

Mammoth will throw a “WELCOME HOME” party for Olympian Meb Keflezighi this evening at the Village, according to the Mammoth Visitors Bureau.

Visitors Bureau Director John Urdi, who was in Houston last week for the 2012 Marathon Olympic Trial, put the bash together after Keflezighi, 36, won the Trial last weekend.

The Welcome Home party begins at 4 p.m., with a ceremony at 5 p.m. It was unknown who the MC would be, but Urdi hinted that it might be former Olympic bronze medalist (Athens, 2004) Deena Kastor, who was to arrive in Mammoth today from Southern California.

“Let’s welcome Meb home after his big trials win in Houston this past Saturday with a warm Mammoth Lakes welcome,” Urdi said in an email.

He said music from Jeffrey James and the Wanted Gang. Will be featured.
