Ford Mammoth Motocross

As the longest continuously running Motocross in the United States, the Ford Mammoth Motocross is recognized as one of the top five amateur national events in the motorcycle industry.  Many riders have honed their skills on the challenging Mammoth Motocross Track over the years including Ricky Carmichael, Jeremy McGrath, Travis Pastrana and many others.

This 1 hour, 1 mile walk includes topics such as wildlife, resource conservation, and the geology of the Devils Postpile formation.  Meet at the Ranger Station (shuttle stop #6).

Birding by Ear Field Workshop

Come and listen to the sounds of the birds and learn to associate those songs to the actual bird. Dave Marquart, Park Interpretive Specialist with the Mono Lake Tufa State Reserve, will help participants identify a variety of bird calls and songs and learn techniques to remember them. Four-hour workshops begin at 8 a.m. and are geared for beginning and intermediate birders. The cost is $20.00 per person and workshops will be limited to 12 participants. Sierra Club Kayak/Canoe from Benton Crossing to Crowley Lake

Float, paddle and birdwatch about 4 miles along the Owens River. See and learn about a wide variety of birds, particularly waterfowl. Personal flotation device is mandatory. Celebrate the New Crowley Hilltop Preserve

Reds Meadow/Fish Creek Wilderness Stewardship

Join the Backcountry Horsemen of California and Friends of the Inyo on a multi-day, stock-supported volunteer trail work trip from Reds Meadow to Fish Creek/Iva Bell Hot Springs and Purple Lake. Improve popular trails in Mammoth’s backyard, then fish the famous Middle Fork San Joaquin, soak in a natural hot tub and explore the John Muir Wilderness. Stay for one day or five nights. In exchange for trail work, volunteers are served breakfast and dinner. Volunteers that work at least three days can earn a Reds Meadow season pass. Sierra Club Hike to Telescope Peak from Mahogany Flat
A gradual 3,200 ft elev gain on good trail to the summit. This will be a long 14 mile roundtrip.
