Everyday Past Tents: The Way We Camped Past Tents, a traveling exhibit about “The Way We Camped” from the Gold Rush to the mid 1900s, can be seen at the Eastern California Museum in Independence from Dec. 1 to Feb. 22, 2009. This free exhibit shows how people camped from Death Valley to Yosemite by using 50 historical photographs and other artifacts from the Bancroft Library at UC Berkeley and other California museums. The Norman Clyde Exhibit Spotlights ‘The Pack with Legs’ Legendary mountaineer Norman Clyde roamed the high Sierra from his home in Independence. “The pack with legs,” is how Clyde has been described, a testament to his ability to traverse all types of terrain with an 80-pound pack. The Norman Clyde exhibit at the Eastern California Museum will run from March 21, 2009 until Fall 2009. The Museum is located at 155 N. Ranger-Led walk to Devils Postpile Everyday at 11 a.m. The walk includes topics such as wildlife, resource conservation, and the geology of the Devils Postpile formation. The turnoff for Bodie is seven miles south of Bridgeport on U.S. 395. From there, the park is 13 miles and the last three miles are on dirt. Gallery Exhibit at the Mono Lake Committee Information Center & Bookstore The Mono Lake Committee gallery is featuring two local artists: watercolor painter Doug Jung and photographer Rick Kattelmann. The exhibit showcases Mono Basin and greater Sierra Nevada scenes The display will run through October. Mono Basin National Forest Scenic Area Visitor Center The Visitor Center, located ¼ mile north of Lee Vining, is open 7 days a week: Sunday–Thursday from 8 a.m.- 5 p.m. and Friday & Saturday from 8 a.m. - 7 p.m. Visit the Eastern Sierra Interpretive Association Bookstore, join ranger-led naturalist programs and enjoy several exhibits free of charge. The films Of Ice and Fire: A Portrait of the Mono Basin and The Spirit of Yosemite are also free of charge. The South Tufa area on Mono Lake can be reached by driving five miles south of Lee Vining on U.S. 395, then east on Hwy 120 (towards Benton) for approximately five miles; follow the signs to South Tufa. Explore the tufa grove and the mysteries of Mono Lake. Admission: $3 per person (under 18 is free), 80 percent of which supports education, restoration and resource protection. Moto-X in Nevada Hawthorne Moto-X track is a 1.25 mile dirt track designed for Moto-X and ATVs larger than 50cc. Free overnight camping in Hawthorne at the track. Become a Wild Iris Certified Volunteer Assist victims of domestic violence and sexual assault by becoming a Wild Iris Certified volunteer. Shingles vaccine Shingles is a painful skin rash, also called Herpes Zoster, caused by the virus that causes Chickenpox. Individuals have about a 20 to 30 percent chance of getting shingles during their lifetime. CDC recommends a new shingles vaccine for adults 60 years and older. If you are working, in training or school, IMACA is taking applications for the countywide Centralized Eligibility List (CEL). Low-cost Infant/Child Car Seat program Mono County offers a low-cost infant/child car seat program to serve the residents of the county. All residents are eligible and will receive training in the use of child car seats and boosters. Cost of seat based on ability to pay. Seats meet all federal safety standards. Seniors may qualify for power wheelchair Medicare’s regulations now make it easier for seniors and others with debilitating conditions such as arthritis, stroke, heart and breathing problems, or diabetes, to obtain a power wheelchair at little or no cost. Miracle on Wheels is trying to increase public awareness about the assistance options that allow seniors and the disabled to remain independent in their own homes. Los servicios están basados en una evaluación y examen gratuito que indiquen si es que hay una necesidad ó más en las siguientes areas: desarrollo físico, desarrollo del lenguaje; comunicación no-verbal, desarrollo motor fino y grueso, vista y audición (oido), adaptación social/emocional, desarrollo de aprendizaje, y habilidades de auto-ayuda. Si su hijo/a es elgible para el Programa, los servicios serán provistos sin ningún costo basados en las necesidades de los niños/as y sus familias.
