Bridgeport area campgrounds begin to close this week, fall hours for ranger station

Beginning on Saturday, Sept. 17, the Bridgeport Ranger Station on the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest will be returning to the fall and winter office schedule; the office will be open from 8:00 a.m. until 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, and closed on weekends and holidays.

Current recreation information will be available at the outdoor kiosk at the Bridgeport Ranger Station after hours and weekends. Wilderness permits are required for all overnight travel into the Hoover Wilderness. Sept. 15 is the last day of the wilderness quota period. As of Sept. 16, 2011, wilderness permits may be obtained in the Bridgeport Ranger Station during business hours, by self-issue after hours at the outdoor kiosk outside the Ranger Station, and at Leavitt Meadow trailhead

Restroom services at Virginia Lake and Leavitt Meadows trailheads may be reduced or closed without notice subject to weather and/or availability of Forest Service maintenance personnel after October 1.

Note that campground closure dates are subject to change without notice due to inclement weather conditions.

CAMPGROUNDS CLOSED FOR THE SEASON: Green Creek, Upper Honeymoon Flat, Bootleg and Crags (Matterhorn loop)

UPCOMING CAMPGROUND CLOSURES:

Sept. 25: Paha, Obsidian, Sonora Bridge, and reduced service to restroom at Sonora Bridge Picnic Area
October 2: Trumbell and Leavitt Meadow
October 10: Buckeye, Chris Flat, Lower Twin Lakes, and Robinson Creek (south loop)
October 17: Honeymoon Flat (lower), and Robinson Creek (north loop)
October 30: Crags (Sawtooth loop)
