Chalfant motocross track up for debate Thursday

March 9, 2011

An illegally created motocross-like track in Chalfant goes to the county planning commission Thursday for debate, after a private property owner family bull-dozed a roughly one-acre area on their 18 acres into a rough, motocross-like track.

The family is arguing that the motocross like track is a suitable use of their property.

The track has ignited controversy in the small community of Chalfant, with nearby or adjacent neighbors in opposition of the track, but also with a petition signed by about 200 people (not all local) in support of the property owner's right to continue building the track.

The Mono County Planning Commission will address the track issue in a special meeting Thursday and try to determine if it is a suitable use for the area in question.

The meeting is open to the public.

The meeting is at 10:15 a.m. at the Minaret Mall, on the second floor above Giovanni's in the Town/County Conference Room.
