Grand Prix Championships this weekend: For Mammoth, the 16th year
 in a row

It’s no accident if you happen to see a whole lot of professional skiers and snowboarders in town this weekend.

The U.S. Grand Prix wraps up the 2012 tour at Mammoth Mountain, and it’s a big deal.
 
This is the 16th year of this prestigious contest at Mammoth, and it is a premier event for both freeskiing and snowboarding. 
 
Professional skiers and snowboarders go for the gold in pipe and slope. 
 
Qualifying for the event earlier this week, but the big events are today (Friday) and Saturday.
 
This event attracts top tier talent from all over the globe, earning it a five-star TTR ranking for the snowboarding event, and World Cup status for the skiers.
 
Today’s events feature the ski halfpipe finals, along with snowboarding halfpipe qualifying.
 
On Saturday, spectators can watch the ski slopeside finals, followed by the snowboard halfpipe finals.
 
NBC will televise the Hyde Live presents Class Actress tonight and CSS and Shiny Toy Guns co-headline the Mammoth Concert Series at Canyon Lodge on Saturday.
