Huskies try for bounceback against Lucerne Valley

The Mammoth Huskies return home tonight after what seems much longer than two weeks on the road.
And this time, they play against a team whose name does not begin with “B.”

That may not seem like a big deal, but after the Huskies lost to the Bishop Broncos, 59-6, two weeks ago, and 50-6 to the Boron Bobcats last week, a name like Lucerne Valley has a nice ring to it.

The Huskies, 2-3 on the year and 0-1 in conference, play the 1-4 Mustangs tonight in a 7 p.m. game at Gault/McClure Stadium, with the junior varsity game set for 4 o’clock.

If anything is clear abut tonight’s varsity matchup, it’s that the Husky defense will have to bounce back from two weeks of getting mashed.

The Mustang to stop is quarterback Alondre Logan, who is averaging 92 yards a game through the air and 136 total yards this season.

In the backfield, Lucerne Valley’s Kevin Sheldon has averaged 136 yards a game on the ground.
Meanwhile, Mammoth’s Jorge “Coco” Galvan has been bottled up the last two games, but still has averaged 60 yards a game for the Huskies.

Lucerne Valley is coming off a 40-6 loss at Mojave, and one week earlier, the Mustangs lost a close one, 17-14, to the California Military Institute.
