Jack Laws, Sierra Field Guide author, artist at Booky Joint

It’ll be some kind of book signing Saturday afternoon, Sept. 25, at the Booky Joint, where John Muir “Jack” Laws not only will sign his swell new guidebook, but also will offer some artistic demonstrations.

Laws will sprinkle how-to demos in illustration, painting and sketching at the event, which starts at one o’clock and ends at 3.

Dave Leonard, owner of the bookstore, said Laws is a very entertaining guest, and for the Booky Joint to have him is a real treat.

He said refreshments will be served during the book signing, but the book is a refreshment in itself.

It is called “The Laws Field Guide to the Sierra Nevada” and is published in conjunction with the California Academy of Sciences. His subject is the rich variety of Sierra life – trees, wildflowers, ferns, fungi, lichens, fish, reptiles, amphibians, birds, mammals and insects.

Jack Laws will read from his field guide and give drawing and sketching lessons Saturday, Sept. 25, at the Booky Jint, from 1-3 p.m.
