Latest comprehensive update on local campgrounds, roads

The latest update on all the roads and campgrounds in the Inyo National Forest shows a few more roads and campgrounds open, although the opening date for the road into Reds Meadow has been pushed to next week, according to forest officials.

There are some big changes since last week, including the Saddlebag Road opening today, the Reds Meadow Road estimated opening pushed to May 23 for road, water, and sewer line repair, and the Ancient Bristlecone Pine Forest Visitor Center is opening for weekend hours starting tomorrow.

Here's the full list, current as of May 16

Mono Ranger District
All roads are open: Bodie (Highway 270), Lundy Canyon, June Lake Loop (Hwy 158), Monitor Pass, Panum Crater, Parker Lake, Sonora Pass (Hwy 108),Saddlebag Rd., South Tufa. Hwy 120 E, Tioga Pass (Hwy 120 W).

Campgrounds open: Aspen Grove, Big Springs, Glass Creek (est. open 5/16), Gull Lake, June Lake, Lower Lee Vining, Lundy Canyon (county), Oh! Ridge, Reversed Creek (est. opening 5/16), Silver Lake.

Campgrounds closed: Aerie Crag, Big Bend, Bloody Canyon Trailhead CG, Upper Deadman, Lower Deadman, Ellery Lake, Hartley Springs, Junction, Moraine, Obsidian Flat Group, Saddlebag Lake, Sawmill Walk-In, Tioga Lake.

Mammoth Ranger District
Roads closed: Old Mammoth Road to Lakes Basin, Reds Meadow/Devils Postpile (new est. opening 5/23 (repair work necessary).

Roads snow-covered: Laurel Canyon.

Roads open: Convict Lake, Hot Creek Hatchery, Inyo Craters, Lakes Basin (gated at Horseshoe, Coldwater Pass TH becoming accessible to 4WD and melting fast), Lake Mary, Mammoth Creek, Mammoth Scenic Loop, Sherwin Creek.

Campgrounds closed: Agnew Meadows, Agnew Meadows Group, Agnew Meadows Horse, Coldwater, Lake George, Lake Mary, Minaret Falls, Old Shady Rest (est. opening May 23), Pine City, Pine Glen Overflow, Pine Glen Group, Pumice Flat, Pumice Flat Group, Reds Meadow, Twin Lakes (est. opening May 23), Upper Soda Springs, (BLM), Devils Postpile (NPS).

Campgrounds Open: Brown’s Owens River (private), Convict Lake, Crowley Lake (BLM), New Shady Rest, Mammoth Mtn. RV Park (Private), Sherwin Creek.

Devils Postpile Ranger Station is closed.

White Mountain Ranger District
All roads are open!: Hwy 168 West (to Lake Sabrina), North Lake, South Lake, White Mt. Rd.to the Patriarch Grove turn-off, Big Pine Canyon Rd., Rock Creek Rd. (Re-construction Project is underway), Wyman Canyon Rd. is washed out below Deadhorse.

Campgrounds closed: Clyde Glacier Group Camp, North Lake, Sabrina, Holiday, Pine Grove, Rock Creek Lake, Rock Creek Lake Group Camp, Upper Pine Grove.

Campgrounds open: Aspen Group Camp (res. only), Big Meadow, Big Pine Creek, Big Trees, Bishop Park, Bishop Park Group Camp (res. only), Bitterbrush, East Fork (est. open 5/16), Forks, Four Jeffrey, French Camp, Goodale (BLM), Grandview (no water, no trash service, firewood is limited), Group Camp Ferguson, Group Camp Nelson, Group Camp Noren, Horton (BLM), Intake 2 Walk-in, Intake 2, Iris Meadow, McGee Creek, Mosquito Flat Backpacker, Mountain Glen, Palisade Glacier Group Camp (res. only), Pleasant Valley Pit (BLM), Sage Flat, Upper Sage Flat, Table Mt. (res. only), Tuff, Willow.

The Ancient Bristlecone Pine Forest Visitor Center to open 5/17 for weekend hours only.

Mt Whitney Ranger District:
All roads are open!: Foothill Rd., Division Creek Rd, Haiwee Pass Rd. (flood damage), Horseshoe Meadow Rd., Mazourka Canyon Rd., North Saline Valley Rd., Onion Valley Rd, Sage Flat Rd, Whitney Portal Rd.

Campgrounds closed: Cottonwood Lakes/ Pass Trailhead, Horseshoe Meadow Equestrian, Onion Valley (est. open 5/26).

Campground Open: Boulder Creek RV Resort (Private), Diaz Lake (County), Independence Creek (County), Lone Pine, Lower Grays Meadow, Upper Grays Meadow, Portagee Joe (County), Tuttle Creek (BLM), Whitney Portal, Whitney Portal Trailhead.
