Likely suicide victim's body found in local cemetery

The body of an Elk Grove man that was discovered by a National Forest Service employee on patrol at Mt Morrison Cemetery Saturday was likely a suicide, according to the Mono County Sheriff's Department.

According to the sheriff's department, the details go like this.

"At approximately 9:50 am (on Feb. 5) a forest service law enforcement officer was on routine patrol in the Mt. Morrison Cemetery area. The officer located a silver Chevy Blazer parked near the cemetery maintenance shed. He noticed a man lying across the rear seat. He tried to make contact, but the man was unresponsive. Mono County Paramedics and a Mono County Deputy Sheriff were called to assist. When the Mono County Deputy Sheriff arrived, he found the man, identified as Daniel Joseph Geis, 35, to be deceased from an apparent suicide.

"Exact cause of death is currently under investigation (pending an autopsy)."

The cemetery is located about six miles south of the S.R. 203 turnoff to Mammoth Lakes, on the west side of U.S. 395.
