Two weekends ago, the community of June Lake proved that it is the Little Town that Could.
Faced with an economically challenging winter, the June Lake Revitalization Committee set off to develop some animation-generating events and activities. These have required collaboration and cooperation from many community members. The June Lake Winter Festival and Triple Threat Triathlon, held Feb. 1 to 3, really proved how great things can happen if we all work together.
It was very morale-lifting to see our neighbors, friends, and visitors outside racing in the first-ever fun Triple Threat Winter Triathlon, carving huge snow blocks into exciting sculptures for the Village Snow Stroll, laughing with and enjoying the added visitors in town, and playing on the hills and in the snow at the Family Fun Zone.
Everything was executed seamlessly, and our volunteers and friends worked tirelessly.
We especially want to thank the organizations that worked with us to facilitate the production of this event, and the businesses in both June Lake and Mammoth Lakes that donated equipment and gift certificates to enhance our guests’ experiences: Mono County Tourism, U.S. Forest Service, Volunteers on the June Lake Events and Revitalization Committee, June Lake Fire Department, June Lake Junction, June Lake Loop Women’s Club, Double Eagle Resort & Spa, Carl Williams and June Mountain, Boulder Lodge, Mammoth Times, The Sheet, Mammoth High School Jazz Band, The Amanda Myers Band, The Missionaries from the Church of Jesus Christ Latter-day Saints, Mammoth Mountain Community Foundation, Gomez’s Mexican Restaurant & Cantina, Base Camp Café, Ben & Jerry’s, Good Life Café, Toomey’s Restaurant, Stellar Brew, Command Performance Fastski, Roberto’s Mexican Café, Footloose Sports, June Lake Sierra Inn, Cathy’s Candy, Trout Town Joe, Side Door Café, Horseshoe Canyon Gallery, Moon Shadow Gallery, Fern Creek Lodge, June Lake General Store, Kandy Veenker, Heidelberg Inn, Rafter’s Restaurant, June Lake General Store, Tiger Bar & Café, and Ernie’s Tackle & Ski Shop.
We so appreciate all the assistance and support we received. And for those visitors to the area that came out and enjoyed themselves, THANK YOU. You can expect the same, if not more, exciting stuff next year!
