Motorcyclist leads cops on 130 mph chase
A San Diego motorcyclist who led police on a 130-mph chase on U.S. 395 south between the Mammoth Yosemite Airport and Bishop was arrested on July 6 near the Pine Creek Road turnoff on suspicion of reckless driving and driving on a suspended license.
The chase started at about 8:03 p.m. when California Highway Patrol officers saw a red sport motorcycle traveling southbound on the highway near the Mammoth Yosemite Airport.
The officers attempted to overtake the motorcycle, which continued in excess of 130 miles per hour, splitting lanes (riding between vehicles), and passing vehicles on the right.
After about 30 miles in excess of 130 miles per hour, the rider yielded to the right shoulder of U.S. 395 at Pine Creek Road, north of Bishop.
The officer contacted the rider, Aaron J. Bieker, 25, of San Diego and placed him under arrest for reckless driving and driving on a suspended license.
Bieker was booked into the Mono County jail in Bridgeport.
Bieker’s motorcycle, a 2014 Yamaha FZ-09, was impounded for 30 days.
