RAW: Family outdoor-oriented theatre show at Mono Lake Friday evening
As part of a National and State parks tour from California to Colorado, Rangeelay Theatre ensemble presents IN’Tents at 11 a.m. at Mono Lake Scenic Area Visitor Center and 4:30 p.m. at the Mammoth Lake Welcome Center, in the Forest Service Amphitheather.
IN‘Tents is a fun and educational family show. Through hilarious misadventures, park ranger Patricia Pinky and first time camper Chipotle learn how to camp, preserve and enjoy their natural spaces. The show is full of chaplin-esque physical comedy!
The members of Rangeelay Theatre Ensemble received their training at Dell’Arte International, world-renowned training institute of physical theatre based in Blue Lake, CA. Pratik Motwani (India) Meghan Frank (USA) and Janessa Johnsrude (Canada) are an international team of theatre makers who have created original theatre across the globe, from India to Afghanistan to Bali. They strive to address social and ecological themes through vivacious humor and physical play.
The first iteration of IN’Tents was created and performed in India in 2010 for thousands of street children, pediatric cancer patients, students, and teachers in collaboration with non-governmental organizations such as Cancer Patients Aid Association, India World Vision, Salaam Baalak Trust, among others.
Funding for national parks system is “nearly $400 million less than it was 10 years ago (NCPA.org)." Parks have been forced to reduce their amount of interpretive programming. The mission of IN’Tents is to bring ‘Arts and Parks together’ in order to provide FREE, entertaining and educational programming to families across America this summer.
IN’Tents is made possible by funding from the Puffin Foundation LTD. and private donors and presented in partnership with Inyo National Forest area.
THE TOUR: July through August of 2012, The IN’ Tents team will perform at Redwood National and State Parks, Sonoma County Regional Parks, the Desert Discovery Center in Barstow, California, the Grand Canyon in Arizona, Bryce Canyon and Arches National Parks in Utah, Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado, among many others.
