RAW: Yorba Linda woman dies near Baxter Pass after falling 150 feet
A Yorba Linda woman has died after falling 150 feet near the Baxter Pass area of the Sierra backcountry west of Independence, according to the Inyo County Sheriff's office.
On Aug. 23, Inyo County Sheriff’s dispatch was notified of a deceased victim near the Diamond Peak area near Baxter Pass, according to a news release from the Inyo County Sheriff's office.
Patricia Hadley, 54, Yorba Linda, had been hiking with a group and had gone on ahead, the news release states.
Hadley was described as an excellent hiker and according to interviews with the hiking party, she was last seen at a distance on a rocky outcropping attempting to descend.
When the group assembled later in the afternoon, Hadley was missing, the news release states.
A search revealed that she had fallen down the outcropping approximately 150 feet.
In addition to Inyo County Search and Rescue, Sequoia Kings National Park Search and Rescue assisted the search and rescue and recovery effort.
Hadley was airlifted out by U.S. Forest Service helicopter 552 and her body was turned over to the Inyo County Coroner’s Office.
