Rock Creek Road reconstruction project has begun
Rock Creek Road Reconstruction Project has begun, and will continue, weather permitting, through the 2014/2015 seasons.
This project to repair and restore the Rock Creek Road includes the development of a bike lane and these much-needed improvements mean greater accessibility to visitors and locals alike.
Mono County Board of Supervisors Chairman Larry Johnston commented, “This is an exciting project. The grant funding obtained by Public Works has given us a great opportunity to improve the accessibility of the beautiful area of Rock Creek for both vehicles and cyclists, and enhance support for our local businesses.”
The project is being managed by the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), through grant funding that was procured by Mono County Public Works. The Rock Creek region is home to beautiful scenery, spectacular views and many popular local businesses including; Tom’s Place Resort, Pie in the Sky Café, Rock Creek Lodge, Rock Creek Lake Resort, and Rock Creek Pack Station. Rock Creek Road also accesses several scenic campgrounds managed by the Inyo National Forest.
Visitors should plan accordingly for travel to the Rock Creek area this spring and summer, as traffic delays of up to 30 minutes may be encountered. Construction will be suspended for major holidays including; Memorial Day weekend, Independence Day and Labor Day weekend.
All Rock Creek recreational activities - hiking, fishing, horseback riding, camping - will remain available throughout the season, and the Rock Creek area businesses look forward to welcoming visitors as they do every year.
