Suspects at large after possible burglary attempt in Walker

March 28, 2013

There are no suspects in a possible attempted burglary in Walker that occurred Tuesday, March 19, and the Mono County Sheriff’s department wants local residents to remember to lock their doors and be alert.

The call about the possible burglary came in at about 11:30 a.m., according to a sheriff’s department news release.

“Deputies were dispatched to Walker for the report of two unknown suspects, dressed in dark clothing, who had entered a residence through an unlocked door,” the news release stated.

“The suspects were unaware that the residence was occupied and were chased away by the homeowner. Prior to the incident taking place, a male subject knocked on the front door of the residence inquiring about a person who did not live there. It is believed, at this time, that the male at the front door may have been checking to see if the residence was occupied prior to the attempted burglary.”

This case is still under active investigation by the Mono County Sheriff’s Office.

The Mono County Sheriff’s Office would like to remind the residents of the Walker/Coleville communities to keep their residence locked and beware of any suspicious activity. Increased deputy patrol has been, and will continue, to be done to continue to ensure the safety of the public.

If residents believe suspicious activity is taking place, the sheriff’s department is asking to not take matters into their own hands and to instead call the Mono County Sheriff’s Office Dispatch at 760-932-7549 ext. 7.
