Tioga Road, Sonora Pass close in advance of snowfall; Monitor still open

Caltrans closed the Tioga Road and S.R. 108 (Sonora Pass) early on Tuesday, Nov. 19, in advance of predicted snowfall at the high elevations of the Sierra Nevada.

Monitor Pass (S.R. 89), which connects U.S. 395 near Topaz to Markleeville on the west side, remained open as of 10:15 a.m., Caltrans said on its website.

The predicted snowfall ranged wildly as of Tuesday morning, but forecasters at the National Weather Service suggested snow would begin falling on Tuesday, into Tuesday night and then into Wednesday.
