Town Council moves meeting to TONIGHT (Tuesday)

The Mammoth Lakes Town Council has moved its special meeting from Wednesday, Nov. 14 to tonight, Nov. 13, according to Town Clerk Jaimie Gray.

The reason is because of schedule conflicts by some members of the council.

Last week, the council called a special meeting so it could discuss further its proposed "restructuring" methods to help pay the first wave of $2 million-a-year annual payments to Mammoth Lakes Land Acquisition. The town earlier this year accepted a settlement of a $29.5 million, 23-year breach of contract lawsuit as a result of a case that began more than a decade ago.

The council originally had a schedule that, because of its self-imposed Dec. 5 deadline to nail down the restructuring, would not have met until then. The council already had canceled its regular meeting on Wednesday, Nov. 21, for the Thanksgiving holiday.

Still under debate are the two hot-button issues contained within the town's restructuring pal: a cut of seven sworn officers from the Police Department, and abandoning its subsidy to Whitmore Pool and Whitmore Park.

Also on this week's town government agenda is a 3 p.m. meeting today (Tuesday) by the Recreation Commission, and a 3 p.m. meeting by the Planning Commission on Wednesday.

All the meetings will be in Suite Z of the Town Offices, above the Minaret Cinema in the Minaret Mall.
