Another week has gone by since Verizon was hit with some big fines for not providing high speed broadband service to Crowley Lake and Swall Meadows and still, neither community had service as of press time, according to county officials.
According to a letter sent by the state public utilities commission to Verizon last week, Verizon must pay $3,000 a day for every day since April 5 and $2,000 a day for every day since Jan. 28 that it has not provided the Crowley Lake and Swall Meadows area with broadband service it promised last year.
Residents have been promised the broadband as mitigation for a violation of the state’s Scenic Highway laws since last year, when Verizon failed to underground the fiber it was installing. The service was promised to be in place by Jan. 28.
