Parents plea for children's safety falling on deaf ears? E-mail
Tuesday, 18 November 2008
Representing the Latino community in Mammoth Lakes, Margarita Cuellear stood up at the Mammoth Unified School District Board at its Monday night meeting before a room full of parents and children and helped voice their concerns about the safety of their children when it's time for them to get to school.

“We all know that soon enough the roads will be icy and dangerous,” Cuellear said. “As soon as the season kicks in these parents won't be able to walk their kids to school anymore because they will have to be at work.”
The bus routes to and from the schools have been cut because of budget issues and not all parents in town have cars to drive their kids to school.

“These parents are very frightened for their children,” Cuellear said. “They don't want their kids walking to school when there are snowplows on the road and no sidewalks. Something has to be done.”
One parent at the end of the meeting said she feels that their concerns are falling on deaf ears. See the full story in the Nov. 26 issue of the Mammoth Times – SP
