The library is back in business. Mammoth Times Photo/Erick Sugimura The Mammoth Lakes Library reopened Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2009 after a brief closure due to water damage. The library is fully opened despite some minor repairs that will take place in the next few weeks; replacement of ceiling tiles, plywood, drywall, some painting touch-ups and work on the fire sprinkler system. The library closed the afternoon of Friday, Dec. 26 after a pipe on the second floor burst sending water from the ceiling on the second floor through the walls and ceiling down to the first floor.
The Mammoth Lakes Fire Department, library staff, Service Master, local electricians and contractors were quick to respond, minimizing damage to materials. During the closure no fines were assessed on borrowed materials; this grace period will continue through Monday, Jan. 12, 2009.
The library staff is grateful to everyone that helped make the clean up a fast, smooth process and for the patience of the community during the closure.
