Locals helping locals
carwash fundraiser
The Mammoth Lakes Firefighters Association is holding a carwash fundraiser on Saturday, May 9 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Fire Station #1 on Main Street. The proceeds will benefit Marley Herrera (a 15-year-old local girl waiting for a heart transplant near Loma Linda), Rosio Guzman (the office manager of Mammoth Ski and Raquet who just had open heart surgery), as well as 10% going to the Mammoth Lakes downed Firefighter Fund. The car wash donation is $5.

George Fowler Memorial – May 16
An open memorial service for family and friends to celebrate the adventurous, loving man is being hosted by Snowcreek Athletic Club on Saturday, May 16, 2009 from 1 p.m.  The family thanks the community for the generous outpouring of love and support, reminding us that he we will be greatly missed.  Donations can be made to the National Brain Tumor Society: www.braintumor.org.
Mammoth Value Pass sells out early
After opening up sales of Mammoth Value Passes (MVP) to the public on April 1, Mammoth announced that MVPs sold out a full week ahead of schedule. MVPs were designed to be on sale for the month of April or until a set number of passes were sold, which happened after only 23 days.

Inyo County SAR fundraiser
The Inyo County Search & Rescue Team is holding their 6th annual “Gear Heads Sale” at the Choo Choo Swap Meet on May 1 at the Tri-County Fairgrounds in Bishop. Donations of outdoor and recreational gear can be made at the Posse Hut located on Airport Road on Spril 30 between 3 and 6 p.m. For more information, call (760) 872-1260 or (760) 937-6516.

Career Day with Mammoth Rotary and college team  
Eastern Sierra College Center, Cerro Coso Community College is teaming with the Mammoth Rotary to host a career day at the Mammoth Campus of ESCC from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 7.
The event is free for all Mono County High School seniors.  The event will be presented by the Mammoth Rotary Club. Students will have the opportunity to visit the College campus and learn about career paths from Mammoth Lakes community members. MHS GSA Bandana Project
Mammoth High School Gay/Straight Alliance will be hosting a Bandana Project event in the high school Multi-Purpose Room at 6 p.m. with a powerpoint presentation, followed by the bandana workshop. Bandanas symbolize the sexual exploitation of immigrant farmworker women. A California survey found that 90 percent of farmworker women stated that sexual harrassment is a major problem.

Town Clean-up Day re-scheduled
Town Clean-up Day has been scheduled for May 30, 2009 – rescheduled from May 16.
 Residents are encouraged to grab a bag and clean up their area starting at 8 a.m., then join the entire community for a complimentary volunteer lunch and raffle prizes at Mammoth Creek Park at 12:00 p.m. This annual event is sponsored by the Town of Mammoth Lakes and many community partners.

Road to Bristlecone Forest to Open April 21
The Inyo National Forest has announced that the paved road into the Ancient Bristlecone Pine Forest will open as far as Schulman Grove on Tuesday, April 21st.
Bristlecone Pine Forest Manager John Louth stated that while the Methuselah Trail is still blocked by snow,  the two other trails at Schulman Grove are now snow free and open.  The Schulman Grove area will be staffed on weekends beginning May 9th and will increase days of operation after the Memorial Day holiday weekend.  Louth also noted that the Silver and Wyman Canyon Roads remain closed due to snow and saturated roadbeds at higher elevations.
