After a week-long search, the remains of a powered sailplane with two passengers on board were spotted on May 1 by a USAF Pavehawk rescue helicopter about 10 miles north of Mammoth Lakes in Mono County, according to Lt. Matthew Scherzi of the Civil Air Patrol. There were no survivors. The two place motor-glider (combination airplane and sailplane) was reported missing on April 24 when the Colorado couple on board failed to arrive in Modesto, Calif. from Tonopah, Nev. per their flight plan. – CB
