Mammoth Times Photo/Susan Morning. The ‘historic’ Yodler Bar and Grill will reopen this summer up at Mammoth Mountain.
Visitors and locals will see the return of an ‘old friend’ this summer as the Cervinia Restaurant at Main Lodge will be turning back into the Yodler at the start of mountain bike season.
“It was a combination of guest comments and what we need to do to make the business successful,” Mammoth Mountain Communications Director Joani Lynch Lynch said of the return of the popular après ski bar and grill that sat across the parking lot from Main Lodge.
“People are looking for a return to basics,” Lynch said regarding the departure of the Patina Restaurant Group.
“We learned a lot of good things while Patina was here,” Lynch said, mentioning their method of food preparation, standard of food quality and ordering procedures.
Patina was partnered with Mammoth Mountain as its exclusive manager for food, beverage and catering since 2007. This relationship will end as of May 31, 2009. A recent Mammoth Mountain press release attributed the dissolving of this partnership to the downturn in the economy and a significant decline of skier visits.
In Patina’s absence, Food and Beverage will once again be under the supervision of Senior Vice President of Operations Bill Cockroft.
According to local legend, the Yodler building was transported from Switzerland piece by piece in the early days of the Mountain. Whether true or not, many ‘legendary’ evenings have been shared by locals and guests shoulder-to-shoulder with Hollywood celebrities and Olympic athletes,  skiers and boarders.
The Yodler is planned to open by June 20, serving lunch until the early evening and possibly breakfast. The Mountainside Grill, located inside the Mammoth  Mountain Inn, will be serving breakfast and dinner buffet throughout the summer to round out the food offerings on the Mountain.
As to whether or not the Mountain might resume a relationship with Patina in the future should the economy improve, Lynch said, “the door can always be open for that.”
