Geoff Hartman passed away peacefully on Aug. 12, 2009 after a 15-year battle with peripheral neuropathy. He was born Nov. 4, 1941 in Lebanon, Missouri to Warden and Marion Hartman and raised in Mount Gretna, Pennsylvania, where he graduated from Cornwall High School in 1959. After graduating from the University of Rochester in 1963, he proudly served his country as a Captain in the United States Marine Corps. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War and upon his release from active duty began a career as a corporate manager with the Ancient Mariner/Rusty Pelican Restaurant Corp. He left the restaurant business in 1980 and started his second career as the owner and director of Mountain Summer Camp. In 1984 he bought Pine Cliff Resort in Old Mammoth, which he owned and managed until the physical effects of peripheral neuropathy prevented him from doing so. His three sons graduated from Mammoth High School. Mr. Hartman relocated to Gardnerville Nevada, where he spent the last several years. He is survived by his wife, Susan Hartman of Mammoth Lakes; his sons Derrek (Tahnee) of Boise, Idaho, Reeve (Alison) of Huntington Beach, Tanner (fiancée Katie) also of Boise, Idaho; his brother, Dennis (Dottie) of Mammoth Lakes; and his sister, Debbie of Clearwater, Florida; and six grandchildren, Natalie, Burr, Bruin, Quinn, Bridger and Owen Hartman. He was a very honorable, hard working, fair man who had a profound love for his family and the Eastern Sierra. Donations can be made in Geoff Hartman’s name to the Mammoth High School Boosters Club, P.O. Box 3149 Mammoth Lakes Calif. 93546-3149 or www.mhsboosters.org or call (760) 935-4407.
