Bernadette Lovato is new BLM Field Office Manager in Bishop.
Bernadette Lovato has been named manager of the Bureau of Land Management’s Bishop Field Office. The office, with 42 employees, manages 750,000 acres the length of the Eastern Sierra, from Topaz Lake to Owens Lake, including the Alabama Hills near Lone Pine.
“We’re excited that Bernadette has accepted the position as the Bishop Field Office manager. She has a collaborative approach to resource management and values building strong relationships with local communities, elected officials and other partners,” said Kathy Hardy, BLM Central California District manager.
Lovato began her federal career in 1990 with the National Park Service and for the past 19 years has worked in many parts of the West. Most recently she was the associate district manager of BLM’s Colorado River District, Ariz., providing administrative oversight for three field offices covering 5.1 million acres in western Arizona.
Prior to that position, she was a member of both the recreation and lands and realty staff for the Lake Havasu Field Office in Arizona from 2002 through 2007, returning after initially working there from 1995 to 1997. From 1997 to 2002 she was a concession management specialist at Glacier National Park, Mont. From 1990 to 1995 she held positions with National Park Service in New Mexico and Arizona.
During her BLM career she has completed several details and special assignments including the assistant field manager, resources, and Arizona State Office branch manager for lands, recreation, and planning. Lovato served as the first chairperson for the BLM Recreation Concession Management Reform Team and as a member of the Department’s Concession Management Task Force.
Lovato attended New Mexico State University and completed the BLM Emerging Leader Program, a year-long intensive training for future BLM leaders. She has two adult children, Valerie and James.
