Mammoth Mountain halfpipe hosts victories for Davis, Clark at U.S. Snowboarding Grand Prix

Danny Davis (Detroit, Mich.) and Kelly Clark (Mt. Snow, Vt.) both took the win at the Sprint U.S. Snowboarding Grand Prix half-pipe event held on Mammoth Mountain yesterday. In the men’s competition, Davis, whose second run included three double corks, was followed by Olympian Shaun White (Carlsbad, Calif.) and Scotty Lago (Seabrook, N.H.) in third. Mammoth locals Greg Bretz and Jack Mitrani took 6th and 10th places, respectively.

Kelly Clark was followed in the women’s competition by Hannah Teter (Belmont, Vt.) and Holly Crawford (Australia). As a result of her win, Clark clinched her third Olympic spot. Halfpipe competition continues at Mammoth on Saturday, Jan 9, for the third of five Olympic qualifiers.

On the men’s side, Davis holds up a sign for Kevin Pearce, the snowboarder who was injured while training for the Grand Prix. Pearce has recently regained consciousness and has been upgraded to serious condition.
