Fans go crazy in thriller as Mammoth bucks Bishop 20-18

MAMMOTH TIMES PHOTO/SUSAN MORNING
Football is not about perfection, it’s about emotion and execution.
I didn’t think we’d beat Bishop, but a couple thousand crazy Huskies fans showed up and never let down all four quarters Friday night; they blew everyone away! The Cheerleaders, Pistol Pete and the Murphy Girls had 'em jacked up! Huskies fans kept  it LOUD all four quarters, impacting the game significantly! The Mammoth Huskies are an emotional team and they rode the fan wave all the way to the beach. Where did this come from? The Huskies victory over Bishop was a community win. The Huskies put a great team on the field and they had one in the stands, too. WOW! In '07 we could go to heaven if those crazy Huskies fans keep showing up.

No 2007 Husky will ever forget Friday night and that includes good junior Huskies Football players I saw at practice all week, like #30 “Good Hands” Nick Escallier who didn’t get to play. The Huskies JV also had a hand in this. #4 Edgar Laguna’s touchdown run after a botched pitch made the statement that the Huskies just aren’t taking it anymore. Both the Varsity and the JV teams have had it...things were going to turn around Friday night and stay turned around! This was a team win and they all made it happen.
The Huskies set the game's tone in the first four plays. #45 Ayala kicked it through the end zone, starting Bishop out at their own 20-yard line, giving 'em 80 yards to go. The Huskies “we’re not taking any more and it doesn’t matter who gets in our way” defense, with #60 Matt Broyles, #56 Max Buccowich and #27 Billy Rossi, forced the Broncos three and out on their first possession.
Then on the Huskies first play of the game, Wormburner hit the birthday boy, #7 General Matt Sprague, deep on the far sideline! Sprague’s catch was a must do; the General fought for possession with the Bronco defender as the ball was coming in, but he would not be denied and made the grab for a Huskies 45-yard gain that put Bishop on its heels. The General had to catch that ball to give credibility and respect to the Huskies passing game, and that opened up the running game inside. #10 James had some great returns and is good around the ball.
The Huskies offensive line, #78 Kenden Blake, #71 Larry Irwin, # 59 Miguel Lopez, #74 Ian Watters and #55 Robert Bullneck Eldred, controlled the game, especially the third quarter. With the Huskies O line cranked up, and the Broncos having to respect Wormhoudt’s arm and receivers like #2 Greg Bretz, #21 Kyle Mahone and #15 Paul Monahan, the Dawgs were able to fire off the old “one-two” over both sides of the line, with fullback #33 Matt Cannonball De Salvo out in front blasting the way for his alternating tailbacks #22 Shane Freeway Farley and #40 Casey Baviera. O line! O line! O Line!
Way to go, Huskies!
