Lake Mary Road closure and detour
The Mammoth Community Water District will conduct construction at the Lake Mary dam on Thursday, Oct. 11, which will require closure of a small section of the Lake Mary Loop Road at the Lake Mary Dam. All vehicle, pedestrian and bicycle traffic will be required to detour around Lake Mary to reach Lake George and other destinations on the southwest side of Lake Mary.
The purpose of this construction is to install a new flow control structure at the Lake Mary Dam. The structure, called a Langemann Gate, will improve the District’s ability regulate stream flows exiting Lake Mary and water storage in the lake. In addition to improving the District’s control, this new structure will improve the safety of the dam by changing the flow of water from under the existing radial arm gates to over the new Langemann Gate. This should also prevent trout from being trapped and killed, as happens under the existing radial arm gate. -MC

Tips for dealing with trash, bears
The Town of Mammoth Lakes recently issued some tips for properly dealing with trash, and preventing associated problems with bear incursions:
When transporting trash to the Mammoth Disposal Transfer Station, please make sure trash bags and other refuse are properly tied and secured.
Do not leave trash outside your trash bin. If the bin is full often, consider increasing  service levels.
Secure trash binds by locking the bear-resistant latch. Notify Mammoth Disposal immediately if the bear-resistant locking mechanism is broken. Locks will be repaired or replaced within 24-48 business hours.
Consider a combination lock for your bin to prevent illegal dumping.
Property owners or managers should inspect properties each morning. Ensure dumpsters don't overflow days before the next pickup. Business employees and tenants should be notified of proper trash disposal municipal codes.
Absentee property owners should hire a local property management service and require property inspections every morning.
Contact Code Compliance Officer, Rick Ramirez at (760) 934-8989 ext. 252 or Michael Grossblatt, Risk Management Director, at ext. 266 with  questions. -TOML

Midweek bookings were also up a bit, with numbers for the Oct. 7-11 period at 21 percent, up three points from last week. –MT/T&R
