The Mammoth Lakes Arts Center (MLAC) under the leadership of Mammoth Lakes entrepreneur John Vereuck recently formed a high-powered financial committee to address longterm funding needs of the Arts Center. Along with four other influential community leaders, Vereuck and Shira Dubrovner, MLAC’s Artistic Director, launched plans to actively seek out and bring on board an entertainment industry “champion” for the Arts Center. In addition, the committee is actively searching for major players to invest in the center's future. “From the moment I met Shira, I knew she had the passion and experience to make this a success, not just for herself, but for the Mammoth Lakes community, as well. I’m committed to the growth of the Mammoth Lakes Arts Center,” Vereuck said. The most recent production, A Don’t Hug Me Christmas Carol, was a critical success and followed the very well-received productions of Dracula and As You Like It.
the very well-received productions of Dracula and As You Like It. “I’m pleased with the progress of the theater thus far in building awareness of the caliber of productions we are bringing to the community, but John and I both realize it takes more than a successful stage production to make the Arts Center completely viable, Dubrovner stated. “I’m grateful for the support of the new financial committee. These are smart, committed community leaders and I look forward to the results of their efforts, joined with mine, to take the Arts Center to the next stage—if you’ll pardon the pun!” One step in the “next stage” is the Feb. 14, the Second Annual Mammoth Lakes Arts Center Valentines Day fund-raiser. This year MLAC will join with the Third Annual Valentine's Day Village Wine Walk to produce an outstanding evening of vintner and gastronomic excellence, romantic engagements and entertainment delights courtesy of multi-talented Boy Meets World TV star Betsy Randle. The evening begins with one of three possible scheduled wine walks starting at 5:30 p.m. in the Village, moves to the Westin Monache for a gourmet buffet supper at 8 p.m., and concludes with Betsy Randle’s one-hour, one-of-a-kind rendering of Broadway songs at 8:30 p.m. Among her credits, in addition to a regular role on ABC's Boy Meets World, are recurring TV roles on the former WB's Charmed and ABC's hit series Home Improvement, extensive stage credits including The Vagina Monologues, Bye, Bye, Birdie, A Streetcar Named Desire and Oklahoma. Randle will be accompanied by the incomparable Scott Harlan, a member of the Musical Theatre Guild and an accomplished stage, film and recording star in his own right. Harlan last appeared as Beadle Bamford in Sweeney Todd and as Nicely, Nicely in Guys and Dolls. He recently costarred as Sancho in Man of La Mancha, and spent nine months performing in and musically directing the Los Angeles company of I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change, appeared in Radio Gals, shared the stage with Carol Burnett in the world premiere of the new musical, From The Top and was a series regular in the CBS dramatic series WIOU. Scott has appeared Off-Broadway in The Rocky Horror Picture Show. Movie roles include Risky Business and Sidney Lumet's Power, opposite Richard Gere. A popular studio/session singer, Harlan's voice can be heard on a number of commercial jingles, on Elektra/Nonesuch's Lady Be Good, SONY Music's recording of Leslie Bricusse's Paris In The Spring, and the Disney animated films A Goofy Movie, and Pocahontas II. Tickets are available in advance, on or before Feb. 13, for the entire Wine Walk/Arts Center Event at $125 per person, and may also be purchased separately for the buffet dinner and benefit performance, not including the Wine Walk, at $90 per person. At the door, tickets for the entire evening are $150 per person; buffet and show tickets only will be $120 per person. For reservations call (760) 934-1900.
