Renowned design firm to design Main Street
Mammoth Mountain Ski Area CEO Rusty Gregory and Chadmar's Chuck Lande are working on bringing design firm Hart/Howerton, which has designed projects in mountain areas including Bachelor Gulch and Northstar, to Mammoth to design Main Street. Gregory announced at last week's Mammoth Lakes Housing meeting that they plan to phase the $500,000 project, and that the $100,000 that Chadmar and MMSA have jointly committed to the project in the past, $50,000 coming from each entity, would pay for the first phase of the project. -MT

Library fun with Fahrenheit 451
Mono County Libraries with the support from the Friends of the Library will participate in the Big Read program, an initiative of the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA), during the entire month of May. The concept of the Big Read is to restore reading to the center of American culture. Mono County is one of 127 communities nationwide participating in the January to July 2008 program. In addition, the library will host fun and educational events based on Ray Bradbury’s Fahrenheit 451 throughout the whole month of May.

All county libraries have many supplemental resources to help guide lectures on the book. Libraries and other community organizations will offer various events throughout the county for all ages, including a lecture series, film screenings and book discussions. There will be an essay contest for middle and high school students, a bookmark art contest for all students and a “multi-media mechanical hound” design contest.
For information or to be involved, contact Ana Danielson at (760) 934-4777. -MT

Lodging Association resurrected
The Tourism and Recreation Department's Jamie Lokan, in conjunction with Teri Stehlik and Piper Ramoncinski have resurrected the Mammoth Lakes Lodging Association. Six lodging managers and owners attended the first meeting of the group on Feb. 4 and many others have expressed interest in the association, but were out of town for last week's meeting.
According to Lokan, the association is a good way for the lodging partners to get together and talk about best business practices, and the best way to sell the Town of Mammoth to the visitors. “It's been more than five years since the group was really active,” Lokan said.
The group has decided to meet on the last Tuesday of every month, with the next meeting scheduled for Feb. 26 from 3-5 p.m. Check the Mammoth Times or Stu's News for location.

Parent Preschool seeks feedback
In an effort to determine the level of need for a parent-involved preschool, Mammoth Lakes Parent Preschool has created a brief and confidential survey they would like those interested to complete by Feb. 29. Prompt response is essential, as the surveys will help determine the direction of the school.
Further information is also available by attending the Preschool's ongoing monthly  meetings,  the first Wednesday of each month, 6:30-7:30 p.m. in the S.P.O.R.T Building at Mammoth Hospital, located on the 3rd floor in Conference Room D.
