Story Hour at the Library introduces preschoolers to music
Rebecca Hang of the Felici Trio, teacher of more than 70 local young violinists, helps with showing “perfect position.”SUBMITTED PHOTOS Mammoth Lakes Friends of the Library received a grant from the Jane Deming Fund for music education. They decided to fund three Story Hours with the Felici Trio to start introducing preschoolers to music. The Trio has chosen the subjects each time, and Rebecca Hang, the Trio's violinist, is wonderful at getting the kids and parents involved in whatever story is being presented. Sixty-one kids and adults attended the first Story Hour. “For the second one, we had 64, and I've never had so much fun!” said Jo Bacon, Friends of the Library president. “Tracey, from the library staff, read the book in English, and I did the Spanish translation, and we all sang, danced and played with the musical instruments. “One of the best moments was seeing a Dad singing the lullaby into his child's ear as they rocked to the music. And we also heard some selections from Vivaldi that the Trio incorporated into the story,” Bacon said. The final Story Hour will be Saturday, April 26 at 4 p.m.
