Deal yourself in to help handicapped during Inyo Mono association's Poker Run fund-raiser
Bikes of all colors and varieties will take to the road for to help the handicapped during IMAH's Poker Run. PHOTOS COURTESY IMAH The weather is warming up and spring is in the air, which means motorcycle enthusiasts all over the Eastern Sierra are tuning up their engines and shining up their chrome, if they're not already riding. Bikers these days are big, tough teddy bears, especially when it comes to helping out those in need. Inventively integrating their love of two-wheel cruising and their ability to generate much-needed funds, bikers have made great use of the Poker Run concept, and this year many are expected to take part in the Second Annual Inyo-Mono Association for the Handicapped (IMAH) Poker Run on Saturday, May 10. Registration starts at 9 a.m. at Golden State Cycle in Bishop. There will be a "Best Bike" contest, high hand wins $150 and low hand wins $75.
The route include stops at Mono Mills, Lee Vining and Convict Lake. The Poker Run will culminate at Elks Lodge with hors d’oeuvres and a feast of tri-tip and chicken. There will be a silent auction, raffle drawings and dancing. Got a classic car or hot set of four-wheels for cruising? No problem; IMAH said cars are welcome, too, telling drivers to wax up that convertible, sports car or hot rod and join in the fun. Proceeds from this year’s poker run will be used to take IMAH’s special adults on a visit to the San Diego Zoo. IMAH provides a wide range of programs and services for developmentally disabled adults living in Inyo and Mono counties. IMAH provides work adjustment training in the Sierra Thrift Mall, life skills training and work opportunities out in the community. IMAH also provides an excellent educational curriculum which includes reading comprehension, nutritional meal planning, math skills, money management and budgeting. IMAH’s mission is to promote an independent and fulfilling life style for each adult who is developmentally disabled. Enjoy the fun and supporting IMAH’s special adults. Pre-registration forms available at Golden State Cycle in Bishop and IMAH’s Sierra Thrift Mall. For more information call (760) 873-8668. -Press Release
