Mammoth Mountain ski racers wrap season, start spring training E-mail

Mammoth Mountain Ski Team racers had a busy month starting with Far West Giant Slalom Championships, April 4-5 at Squaw Valley Ski Area. The team had seven racers place top 15 including: J1 Women-Kasey Morning 8, 12. J3 Women-Madeline Riffel 19, 14; Lillie Pieper 21 tie, 15. J1-Men-Kyle Pieper 8, 5. J3 Men-Bryce Eller 2, DNF; Jack Gephart 9, 26; Cody Wheat 13, 12.
The team then traveled to Boreal April 6-7 for the slalom portion of the championships where Noah Duff took 17th and 12th place overall. More Mammoth racers skiing in the Tahoe area events: Jackie Brody, Laura Williams, Alexandra Watson, Jamie Morris, Amie Lonza, Darcie Marshall, Emily Goldenberg, Noah Duff, Brandon Rottenbacher, Grant Higerd, Ian Robinson, Jack Donovan, Tyler Wallasch, Kirk Carlson, Keeler Johnston, Matt Kaufman, Jackson Dozier, Atle Paulseth, Michael Kearns, Maxwell Hume Clare Peckenpaugh, Laura Williams, Grant Higerd, Keeler Johnston, Tyler Wallasch, Jack Gephart, Ian Robinson and Max Hume.
In the Spring Series downhills at Mammoth on April 16-17, eight FIS racers were invited, with three athletes placing in the top 15: Geordie Lonza 6, 5; Emily James 10, 3; Rose Martin 19, 15. Valerie Porges, Kaylee Cortopassi, Gerritt Wormhoudt, Dylan Brooks, Randy Malm also competed.
Mammoth Mountain hosted the speed portion of the Far West Championships April 19-25. The series included two super G races and three downhills. A number of team members placed in the top 15 in their age groups including: MID Women-Stacey Cook DNS, 1, 1, 1, 1. J1 Women-Kaylee Cortopassi 1, 2, 2, 2, 2; Valerie Porges 2, 3, 3, 3, 3; Kasey Morning 6, 6, 9, 8, 8; Rose Martin DNF, DNF, 4, 5, 5;  Geordie Lonza DNF, 1, 1, 1, 1. J2 Women-Emily James 1, 1, 1, 1, 2; Carissa Allen 8, 9, 5, 8, 5; Jackie Brody 11; Kiko Sweeney DSQ, 10, 9, 10, 9. J3 Women-Noah Duff 2, 1, 1, 1, 1; Amie Lonza 12, 13, 7, 15, 19; Madeline Riffel 21, 14, 16, 23, 18. J1 Men-Gerritt Wormhoudt 2, 4, 9, 4, 3; Teddy Augustine 6, 6, 6, 6, 7; Kyle Pieper 7, 9, 7, 8, 8. J2 Men-Dylan Brooks 7, 6, 2, 4, 2; Brandon Rottenbacher 13, 13; Shane McKee 14, 10, 10, 7, DNF; Randy Malm DNF, DNF, 3, 3, 3. J3 Men-Cody Wheat 21, 6, 10, 8, 1; Grant Higerd 2, 7, 3, 9, 8; Bryce Eller 4, 13, 11, 10, 4; Jack Gephart 17, 18, 2, 7, 3; Kirk Carlson 22, 23, 14, 17, 15.
The following local racers also raced in the speed series: Jamie Morris, Lillie Pieper, Clare Peckenpaugh, Emily Goldenberg, Elizabeth Reynolds, Madeline Brody, Katherine Brody, Stephen Pallazo, Tyler Wallasch, Jack Donovan, Keller Johnston, Jackson Dozier, Maxwell Hume, Atle Paulseth, Matt Kaufman and Garrett Hardy.
The Mammoth Mountain Ski Team athletes are taking part in on snow training camps during the spring and summer along with their regular dry land conditioning sessions in preparation for next season.
