This last season’s big snows, plus an added dose over Memorial Day weekend, left a particularly breathtaking backdrop to many fishing spots around the area. No matter how long I have lived and fished the high Sierra, there is still something magical about looking out across the lake or stream where you are fishing and taking in a view that is literally the stuff of postcards.
When friends or relatives visit I always make it point to take them to two of my favorite fishing spots and do my best to convince them go out on the water in a float tube. This sometimes takes some arm twisting but invariably if I succeed in getting them out there the response is overwhelmingly  positive.
My three spots, by the way, are Lake George and the upper Twin Lake in our own Lakes Basin, and the inlet end of Silver Lake over on the June Lake Loop. It’s easy to catch fish in all three places and the backdrop seems to make the fishing just a little bit better. Give 'em a try !
Now, here are the latest recommendations from the Trout Fly and Troutfitter guides for this week.
For the bait and lure fishermen . . .
