Hospital CEO Myers resigns
Gary Myers, Chief Executive Officer of the Southern Mono Healthcare District, has resigned, effective Dec. 31, during an early morning closed session of the Board of Directors on Monday, Aug. 27. Myers has served in this post since January 1995. The Board will begin a formal search process for a new Chief Executive Officer immediately led by board members Jack Copeland and Don Sage, Board Chair.

In a press release from Mammoth Hospital, Myers stated:
“It has been an honor and a privilege to lead the vision and mission of the District for the past 13 years. Several years ago, the board charged me with an aggressive strategic plan to recruit new physicians and other professionals, develop high quality new services, build new facilities, and acquire new technology to create a state-of-the-art healthcare system for our community residents and visitors. All of those assets and infrastructure are now in place and I’m very proud of what our team here at Mammoth Hospital has accomplished over the years. For me, it’s been an immensely pleasurable time in my life to work alongside such intelligent and dedicated professionals and to have had the opportunity to learn so much from everyone. It’s been very gratifying to witness the trust and support of the community that they’ve invested in the hospital as well. While I’ll miss the close working relationship with our physicians, other senior managers, and so many others, I’m excited about the opportunities that lie ahead. I plan to re-enter clinical practice in physical therapy on a part time basis later next year and spend more time with my family enjoying all that the Eastern Sierra has to offer.” -SMHD

Snowcreek postpones closing
After previously going public with an official closing date of Sept. 30, Snowcreek Athletic Club announced last week that it has pushed back the date to Nov. 30 instead. Rumors circulating about a possible deal on the table by an interested buyer have prompted much speculation, though at press time no formal statement had been issued by Linda Dempsey regarding the terms, or even a confirmation as to the identity of the purchaser. -MT

Hillside project
The new owner of the Hillside project, Cypress Equities, met with Town staff earlier in the week. They are beginning to process the items required to meet the conditions of approval of their Use Permit. They are hoping to be in a position to begin excavation next spring. -TOML

80/50 project
The owners of the 80/50 project are in the process of submitting plans to occupy the building C garage and improve its appearance so that it does not look like a construction site. Actual construction of building C is reportedly on hold until 80/50 can sell the available fractional shares in buildings A and B. -TOML

MCWD: water line replacement nearing completion
The Mammoth Community Water District announced last week that its pipeline replacement project will move to the last two locations of the summer construction season by the end of August. Current projections are that during the last week of August, the District’s in-house construction crews will begin work replacing about 1,600 feet of water main lines on Jahan Drive and Snowridge Lane. This portion of the District’s summer water line replacement project is expected to last about a month, until the end of September or early October.
Work will be conducted between 7 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. and may involve noisy equipment, such as generators and backhoes. Customers will be connected to temporary water lines for water service and will experience a brief, generally 10 or 15 minute, disruption in water service as the temporary lines are connected. All customers will receive a 24-hour notice for any planned shut-offs.
The current project on Forest Trail between Lakeview Boulevard and Canyon Boulevard is nearly complete. All that remains on this project is the installation of lateral lines connecting customers to the newly replaced main line and some fire hydrant work. Permanent pavement will be laid at the end of the summer as the various projects are completed. The District had previously planned to replace water lines this summer on Beaver Trail, which has been postponed.
For more information on District projects, please contact the District during normal business hours, Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. To 4:30 p.m. at (760) 934-2596.

Who’s in Town?
The calm before Labor Day weekend cooled off occupancy a bit, with the Aug. 24-25 weekend backing off to 57 percent, down 19 points from the previous week.
Midweek bookings lightened up as well, but not as much, with the Aug. 26-30 period projections coming in at 37 percent, off 11 percent.
Early estimates for the Labor Day weekend holiday were running at about 49 percent as of press time, though with all the events going on in the area, it was reasonable to expect that number to climb considerably as we got closer to that block of dates. –MT/T&R
