Once every month the Mono County Supervisors adjourn their regular meeting and take a field trip to a particular location in the county. This month’s visit was a tour, on Oct. 21, of Conway Ranch led by Inland Aquaculture Group (IAG) co-owners Tim Alpers and John Frederickson. The supervisors were briefed on the progress of the ranch which included progress of the raceways; fish health and sanitation; and water conservation and irrigation. The Supes were particularly interested in irrigation because of the potential grazing opportunities Conway Ranch can offer. Conway Ranch operates under the direct supervision of Dan Lyster, Director of Economic Development for Mono County, who is the liaison between the ranch and the Supervisors. Conway Ranch also works with the Mono County Fisheries Commission.
All the major infrastructure should be finished by the end of the month. “It’s been a lot of work with a lot of help to get this done,” Frederickson said. “The Sacramento office of the California Department of Fish and Game came out for a visit and they said that the way we are doing things is just like they would have done it themselves.” |
